Bed Linen Size Chart

Duvet Cover Fitted Sheet Flat Sheet

Double 200cm x 200cm 137cm x 190cm 230cm x 260cm

King 230cm x 220cm 153cm x 200cm 275cm x 260cm

Super King 260cm x 220cm 183cm x 200cm 305cm x260cm

Pillow Size Chart

                             Oxford Continental Super King

first number 50cm x 75 cm 65cm x 65cm 50cm x 90cm

is the width

Mattress size chart

Single 3′ 3′ x 6′3″ 90cm x 190cm

Double 4′6″ 4′6″ x 6′3″ 135cm x 190cm

King 5′ 5′ x 6′6″ 150cm x 200cm

Super King 6′ 6′ x 6′6″ 180cm x 200cm

Once you’ve chosen your wooden bed, you may want some chest of drawers or an elegant oak or walnut wardrobe to compliment it. Of course, your bed will need dressing in beautiful linen. Don’t scrimp on thread count, the higher the more sumptuous it will feel.

Everyone is watching where they spend their money as essentials such as heating, electricity, gas, water and food are the priorities in these tough economic times. Our disposable income is being squeezed, so when looking to buy bedroom furniture, do you go for the cheapest or is this a false economy?

If opting for the cheaper option, will the bedroom furniture stand the test of time or will it have to be replaced in two or three years when the veneer splits or one of the legs has come away from the drawers? The answer is very probably.

At Akka bedroom furniture we like to think that we make and do things properly. We have worked with some of the big multiple stores, so we know our quality is very good. However, we don’t price our products as high because we are able to keep our overheads down. We sell directly from our warehouse, therefore minimising shop rental and rates. Our customers are welcome to come and view the furniture at our warehouse by appointment. You can also order directly over the telephone.

Akka Furniture’s wooden beds are available in four different sizes, 3ft, 4ft 6, 5ft and 6ft, to cover all the standard sizes. All our beds have solid side rails with accompanying solid wooden slats. Some beds have a quality matching veneer, and all others are solid throughout. Our cabinets compliment our beds and are also available in a range of sizes in either american oak or american walnut.

So the clocks have turned back and we now have one more hour to enjoy in bed. The downside to this is, of course, waking in the dark and the early evenings drawing in. If winter days seem short in Britain then spare a thought for those who live further North. In midwinter around the Arctic Circle, instead of daylight the dark sky is illuminated by the northern lights. The Scandinavians create warmth and light in their homes to compensate for the Artic winters. Scandinavian décor has become very popular lately. Here are some ways to bring a Scandinavian feel to a home, and brighten up these dark months.

Sunlight and fresh air are very important. Pale coloured curtains promote a feeling of both.

For indoor lighting, use several light sources instead of a single overhead light. Lighten up corners and alcoves with floor lights and table lamps. Candles are very important in Scandinavian homes.

Traditional Scandinavian design is functional without needless decoration but simplistic, flowing lines.

For Scandinavian style in your bedroom, look no further than AKKA Bedroom Furniture. The Stockholm oak sleigh bed captures the essence of Scandinavian living with its classic handcrafted head and tailboard. The simple lines bring a sense of space and serenity to a bedroom. At the same time, the sleigh shape brings to mind cosiness and warmth and the oak delivers elegance and classic appeal. The Stockholm sleigh bed is available in Single, Double, King and Superking.

Of course at AKKA there are many other wooden beds to look at as well as other wooden bedroom furniture, such as chests of drawers, tall boys, dressing tables, blanket chests and underbed drawers. All of AKKA’s furniture is lovingly handcrafted from quality wood and designed to suit you and your lifestyle.

Whether you have been abroad or at home for your holidays, if you have stayed in hotel bedroom, B & B, or even slept in a tent, you will know that your sleeping arrangements can make or break a holiday. A creaky bed, a mattress that is too soft or too hard, a fusty or draughty room can ruin a good nights sleep. Some holiday bedrooms though can be inspirational. In France, a Louis XV bed, made from ornate carved walnut brings a regal air to a bedroom. In Scandinavia the clean simple lines create a calming, cool atmosphere. In Italy, style matches substance and delivers La Dolce Vita.

AKKA furniture can bring these styles to your bedroom. The Toulouse bed comes in solid oak brings Louis Phillipe classic feel to your bedroom. You can accessorise with a Toulouse bedside and solid two chest drawer. For a more contemporary French feel, take a look at Paris The combination of oak and walnut on the solid veneer headboard of this bed is an enchanting mix, but we also offer the opportunity to own a bed with a beautifully upholstered, plush leather headboard. This high quality pull-up leather has been lightly brushed with the addition of beeswax to give a pleasant matt appearance and a sense of hotel chic to your bedroom. The leather comes from the Selvaggio range of our partner, JMT Leather.

The Milan bedroom range is made from solid oak and has a modernist style, perfect for a more minimalist feel to your bedroom.

If you have been inspired by your travels this summer and want to recreate a whole new look in your bedroom, then please take a look at all the AKKA ranges. The beautifully handcrafted bedroom furniture we offer are all made with loving care from solid oak or walnut. We create wardrobes, chests, tallboys, dressing tables, mirrors, blanket boxes and underbed drawers.

This beautiful warm weather has probably inspired you to update your summer wardrobe, and maybe it’s time to reconsider a new sunny look for your bedroom.

Akka walnut bedroom furniture works beautifully with crisp white cotton sheets and the oak beds are just right for the fabulously fresh floral patterns which are so on trend this season. The wooden beds are beautiful in their own right but dressing them in the right linen just enhances their good looks and brings your room up to date.

Perhaps you feel, now is the time to invest in new wooden bedroom furniture. Take a look through the ranges AKKA furniture offer and see which style works for you, your bedroom and your lifestyle. Whether you choose oak beds or walnut bedroom furniture, skilled craftsmen construct Akka furniture from the finest quality wood.

If the sunshine has inspired you to spring clean, you may find yourself needing more storage in your bedroom. Akka furniture can meet all your storage needs with cabinets, wardrobes and tallboys. Our eight-drawer chest can take lots of woollies and the bedside tables are perfect to keep clutter out of sight. If you need extra storage, take a look at the stylish wooden under bed drawers. Blanket boxes and wooden chests are the perfect place to store all those blankets and heavy bedcovers that can hopefully stay out of sight until autumn. For now, enjoy the long summer days and nights in a bedroom that is cool, yet comfortable, calm and clutter free.

More than any other room in your home , your bedroom needs to be calm and considered – it’s where you start and finish every day. So , stick to a simple pallete of colours and materials , and don’t have more bedroom furniture than you really need. After the wooden bed and a wardrobe , we recommend just great flooring , a fabulous mirror , lovely lights and a simple bedside table. Here are some tips…..

Number 1

Statement bed + bold rug + streamlined accessories = Colourful yet clean

This look is about the bed as the focal point of the room , so to maintain balance other items are kept deliberately minimal. And when it comes to a rug and linens , let the bed guide your colour choices.

Number 2

Clean white + delicate pattern + gold accents = pretty modern

White is very restuful and can work wonderfully in a bedroom , but to avoid a stark or clinical feel it’s important to introduce a little textural relief. Use a wallpaper , bed linen or even a choice piece of bedroom furniture to add some delicate pattern and colour.

Number 3

Warm wood + a shot of colour + luxury underfoot = Chic and simple

Wardrobes with mirrored doors and wooden beds with under bed drawers underneath are great for small spaces – make the most of every inch ! If you do have the room , a blanket box at the end of the bed is a luxurious extra – it can serve as both seat or a place to leave hastily abandoned clothes , books and breakfast trays. Chests of drawers and bedsides can also be warm in in either oak or walnut.

So you have decided that you and your partner now need a new mattress. How do you go about buying it? The first thing you need to be prepared for is to lie on each mattress you are considering for five to ten minutes! I know you’ll be saying ‘Ican’t do that!’ however you really should as this will give your spine time to mould to each mattress.

If the mattress is too soft the spine will be out of alignment causing slouching. Too hard and the body and your spine will not be relaxed. The way to tell if the mattress is the right one is when your spine is fully supported and aligned. Facts prove that 80% of buyers spend just 2 minutes laying on mattresses. We sleep on them for up to 2,900 hours if you sleep 8 hours per night!

Akka Furniture’s mattress supplier Dreamworks Beds manufacture all of their products in the UK. Some of the most popular are:

Open coil

The most common type of mattress on the market and the cheapest. The mattress has an outer rod which strengthens the edges of the mattress. Inside this are springs which lay in rows and are connected at the top and bottom by a helical wire.

Continuous spring

As the name suggests this is a single length of wire knitted into interwoven springs which run up and down the bed vertically. This mattress is priced mid-range because generally it has a hight spring count.

Pocket sprung

The mattress houses small pockets of springs which support the body individually. You do not get any roll because of this. Mid-range pricing.

At AKKA Bedroom Furniture we continualy hear customers say ‘ we have had this bed and mattress since we were first married’ or ‘we just got this bed cheap and have made do ever since’.

There are normally tell tale signs when your bed and mattress need changing. Do you wake up in the night with an aching back or keep rolling into your partner? Have you ‘turned’ the mattress and now fall into a hollow part of the mattress formed by your body posture? When you lay towards the edge of your bed, does the mattress not support your weight and is showing signs or wear?

Research done by sleep expert Dr Chis Idzikowski found that people with uncomfortable beds and mattresses sleep one hour less than people who have comfortable beds! The Furniture Industry Research Association shows that beds and mattresses can deteriorate by as much as 70% over 10 years!

If you are one of those people who need to change a bed or mattress why don’t you have a look at AKKA furniture? We stock eight different styles of wooden beds ranging from 3ft to 6ft in size, in either American white oak or American black walnut. To complement our beds there is an extensive range of wooden chests, wardrobes and accessories. Our mattress supplier has chosen to accompany us on our journey is dreamworks beds. They have a strong passion like us to provide a comprehensive well designed product.

In the today’s fast paced working life more and more people are choosing to work from home. Once you have decided that this works for you and your company where do you put your office? Dining room , lounge or the bedroom?

The dining room and lounge will mean that you your work area will be on show to all your friends and family who come round to visit. The spare bedroom often seems to be a very popular choice .

Here are some general ideas that could make the difference .

If the workstation is in the bedroom consider a fold away desk that won’t be on show all of the time.

If it does fold away what about all the wires from the computer , fax , printer and phone. Is there a cable management system that could keep this under control and out of sight?

The desk and chair must be the correct height for you. This stops backache and eye strain.

Have you got a light on your desk? This could be directed onto the work surface.

Paint the walls a neutral colour that will stimulate and be creative. No big bright colours like reds and oranges.

Do you work well with background music? If so have an i-pod dock with a radio to hand.

Can you get a workstation that will have shelves built in? Or can you put shelves up.? This will keep everything organised and clutter free.

Always have a shredder and a recycling waste basket to hand.

If you have a built in wardrobe in the bedroom could you use part of it to store printing materials and files? You maybe could use the bottom drawer from a chest of drawers to store things. Under bed drawers could also be used as things will be out of sight.

In the end the main thing is that the workstation doesn’t take over your bedroom space. Can you still walk around your wooden bed? Can you open the wardrobe doors? Can you open the drawers from the chest of drawers? Have you still got space for the bedside cabinets?

Can you still fit in all the bedroom furniture you want?

For centuries the bed has been a sign of wealth. The richer the nobleman the bigger and better the bed, which is why probably a lot of people still aspire to owning a four poster bed. In many countries the bed was seen as the most important piece of furniture in the house and is a type of status symbol. In ancient Egypt, beds were used as a place to eat meals and entertain socially. The four post or great standing bed was introduced in the 15th century and was probably brought from Austria.

The elaborately carved back of the four poster bed was sometimes fastened to the panelling of the wall behind and its low heavy ceiling was supported by the carved posts that stood away from the bed. The tudor four post was enormous, with huge pillars which were adorned with rich carvings towering to the ceiling with a huge weight of valances and hangings casting shadows over the bed. The top of each post was often adorned with cupids or the family coat of arms. The bed itself had a wooden board or rope mesh foundation with the mattress on top.

This gives us an idea of the splendour of medieval bedding. The wealthiest households had a feather bed placed onto the mattress of straw, with a layer of canvas inbetween.
