Summer Nights

Sunday, June 12th, 2011

With the beautiful weather we have been enjoying, our body clocks tend to respond to the bright morning light and have us leaping out of bed earlier. However, the longer days, our daily chores and the many modern day distractions, from social networking to late night movies, mean we may be going to bed later.  We then need our bedrooms to be as comfortable as possible to ensure that the sleep we do get is deep, dreamy and unbroken. Questions to ask before buying bedroom furniture

Monday, December 6th, 2010

Buying bedroom furniture should not be an impulse decision.  Due consideration of all aspects of your bedroom should be taken into account:

Is the bedroom being used by one person or two?   How many pieces of furniture can I fit in?  What pieces are essential?  Obviously a bed, do I need more than one chest of drawers?  How many wardrobes will I need?  Could some pieces be dual purpose?  If I have a large bedroom, should I go for larger items i.e. a triple wardrobe which may look more in proportion in the room? AKKA Bedroom Furniture and where it’s wood comes from

Monday, November 8th, 2010

At AKKA bedroom furniture we take the responsibilty of using ethical timbers very seriously.  This means that we only use our american timbers that come with a forestry stewardship council stamp.  This will identify that the timber has been sourced from a mill and forest owners that participate in managing it’s forests by re-planting trees after logging has taken place.  This encourages people who live in the poorer parts of the world to see that they can still make money from the trees but also still see their natural habitat not totally disappear around them. Looking at bedroom furniture on the high street

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Call me sad or is it an obsession that I have but I’m always interested in wooden bedroom furniture that is on offer to the public via the high street and internet. Pricing will always be an important part of a customers criteria when they are selecting potential companies who they might want to look at.  Quality of the the products , customer service back-up and does the bedroom furniture come from renewable sources are other considerations that people  make.

Because we at Akka bedroom furniture design, manufacture and sell directly to you the customer we can be very competitive on pricing as we have such low overheads plus when you speak to somebody it is going to be the owners who are answering your questions whatever they are ,  not a sales person.  We believe that it’s important that we try and convey our quality of the comprehensive range we carry in solid oak and walnut through the website so customers can make an informed decision on us. Feng shui and your bedroom Part II

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

As previously stated, a good feng shui bedroom is one that promotes a harmonious flow of nourishing energy.  Open the windows in your bedroom to keep the air fresh and full of oxygen.  Plants are not good feng shui in the bedroom, unless the room is quite large and the plants are placed far away from the bed.

Good lighting  is very important, you should make sure you have several layers of lighting or use a dimmer switch to adjust the energy.  Candles are best, but be sure to buy ones with no toxins. (more…)

Feng Shui and your bedroom

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

To create a good and well designed Feng Shui bedroom the space needs to be inviting and promote a harmonious flow of energy.  You should feel excited and calm at the same time because you will be there to sleep and relax.

The bed is the most important piece of furniture that will promote intimate connection of your persona energy.  A solid bed and headboard, be it wood or upholstered is vital as this will support your head and neck whilse your body goes into energy repair during your sleeping hours.  A bed will need to have a good amount of space all round and underneath.  This allows the energy to flow around your body while sleeping.  Block this and the energy flow is blocked too.  The best codes of practice are as follows: (more…)

Contemporary Furniture

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

What is contemporary furniture you may well ask?  The way this can be answered is that the emphasis is on concept and design ideas that can be made into full size furniture.  Contemporary furniture designers have to be able to create new and original designs and techniques to produce a stunning piece of furniture that the buyers of big furniture chains will want to showcase on their shopfloors.  Once this step is made hopefully the public will be seduced into buying the furniture. Oak or walnut wooden beds

Try to buy a bed that is solid wood.  Key factors to look for are no small finger pointed laminations on the siderails, head and tail rails.  Look for signs of white sapwood showing towards the outside of the bed.  Whilst this is not crucial to the construction, it shows that the manufacturer has taken time to put the sap face to the inside of the bed with the pure oak tones showing.
