As we spend about a third of our lives sleeping, common sense would tell us to do some research when buying a new bed and mattress. A bed can make a significant statement when entering a bedroom. Of course, the size of the room determines which size bed you choose and whether you can fit in cabinets without making the room too cluttered. The headboard denotes the style you want to achieve, be it luxurious leather or the warm tones of wood. (more…)

Choices when buying bedroom furniture
Wednesday, April 25th, 2012Update for Spring
Thursday, March 22nd, 2012Spring is one of my favourite months. With the onset of longer daylight hours, it’s the ideal time to have a look at your home and give it a fresh new look. Delicate colours and soft fabrics spring to mind at this time of year.
When looking at decorating your master bedroom, think of pale, soothing colours such as a pistachio green or a soft gray blue. These colours not only help you to relax, but in turn can help promote restful sleep. Of course the bedroom furniture you choose is an essential part of getting the right ‘feel’ for your bedroom.
Signs of spring
Sunday, March 4th, 2012Despite the sudden drop in temperature and the whistling wind outside as I write, the signs of spring are beginning to emerge. Whilst trying to get to grips with some much needed spring cleaning yesterday, I came across two ladybirds eagerly making for a dust-ridden corner of my hallway. Not wishing to disturb them, I moved away into my lounge where I had just earlier arranged a display of daffodils and tulips ….. springtime is a special season. (more…)
Putting hearts into the home
Monday, February 13th, 2012Valentines Day is here again. The shops are stocked with cards, chocolates and gifts and love but you don’t need to spend loads to keep romance in your home as well as your heart. According to Feng Shui there a few simple rules to follow.
1. Declutter your bedroom. Put away or get rid of unwanted debris, like old make up or read newspapers. Put your clothes away, in a chest of drawers as opposed to the back of the chair or the floor! Get the room clear and the energy will flow.
2 Ring a bell or clap your hands to chase off stale energy to make way for the new.
3 Walk slowly from your front door to your bedroom and be aware of areas where belongings are stopping or slowing the flow of chi, or sending chi to other rooms. Make a path so fresh chi can find its way to your bedroom and nourish your love life. (more…)
New Year Resolutions
Thursday, January 12th, 2012So now we are in 2012 and AKKA furniture would like to wish a very happy new year to all!
At this time of year, most of us are desperately trying to keep their new year resolutions, be it cutting out unhealthy elements in our life or doing more good things, like increasing our exercise regime. One very healthy resolution that often gets overlooked is ensuring that you get a good night’s sleep which has a massively beneficial impact on well being. (more…)
Christmas Holidays ….
Wednesday, December 28th, 2011Lazy mornings are what Christmas holidays are made for aren’t they? Who wants to get up and out of bed at 7.00 am when is still feels as if it’s the middle of the night? If you’re like me, a lazy lie-in until 8.30 am followed by a cup of fresh coffee is just what is needed on these cold winter mornings. Breakfast can be slightly extravagant in the holidays, where time is not necessarily so short. Eggs benedict can be a real treat, soft squidgy lightly toasted muffins, topped with really crisp bacon and a perfectly poached egg. (more…)
Turn back the clocks
Tuesday, November 1st, 2011So the clocks have turned back and we now have one more hour to enjoy in bed. The downside to this is, of course, waking in the dark and the early evenings drawing in. If winter days seem short in Britain then spare a thought for those who live further North. In midwinter around the Arctic Circle, instead of daylight the dark sky is illuminated by the northern lights. The Scandinavians create warmth and light in their homes to compensate for the Artic winters. Scandinavian décor has become very popular lately. Here are some ways to bring a Scandinavian feel to a home, and brighten up these dark months. (more…)
The arrival of Autumn
Sunday, October 16th, 2011What a joy it was to have a late burst of sunshine at the beginning of October. It was great to wear summer clothes and feel the sun on our faces. The fiercely hot autumn weather peaked in a new record temperature of 29.4C (that’s 84.92F in old money), on 2 October. This was the hottest temperature recorded in October for 100 years. Now though the sun has definitely dimmed and there is an autumnal air around, with the leaves falling in crisp blue skies. (more…)
